"It was never just about playgrounds. It has always been about people."

Why I started Play RGV.

Growing up in rural South Texas, we didn't have a neighborhood park. The street became our playground, and our imaginations did the rest.

Those experiences shaped my appreciation for play and the importance of having a dedicated place for it. They also inspired a belief that continues to guide my work: every child deserves access to a welcoming place to play, explore, and connect with others.

My career in education deepened that belief. Teaching high school while building and operating a Montessori preschool allowed me to see childhood from different perspectives. At every age, I saw how much learning happened through play and time spent together—exploring, asking questions, and trying something new.

I founded Play RGV to help communities create spaces where those opportunities are part of everyday life.

Here in the Rio Grande Valley, family life often brings several generations together. Recreation spaces should reflect that connection, offering children room to play, adults opportunities to stay active, and older generations comfortable places to gather.

That understanding shapes how we approach each project. We begin with the people who will use the space, the needs of the community, and a clear sense of what the project should accomplish.

We also understand the responsibility involved in bringing a recreation project to life. Planning, funding, design, construction, and ongoing maintenance require thoughtful decisions and coordination. Our role is to help communities navigate that process and support the spaces they create long after opening day.

For me, success means seeing a space become part of a community's daily life—a place where children make friends, families spend time together, and neighbors feel connected.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your community's story.

Warm regards,
